after 13.h4 Qe8 (as played in a game) is best, because if White tries to form a perpetual after 14.h5 Nxh5 15.Rxh5 gxh5 16.Bxg7 Kxg7 17.Qe5+, then Kg8 Qg5+ Kh8 Qe5+ Rf6 and Black wins, so the only move I have seen played after 13.h4 Qe8 is 14.Qc4+ and 14…Qf7 was played in the same, but 14…d5 is better, and after the natural 15.Qc5 Ne4 (A trap is after 16.Qd4 Bxe5 17.Qxe5 Nxf2 wins the exchange) 16.Nxe4 Bxe5 and after 17.Rxd5 Black can win the exchange: Bxb2+! 18.Kxb2 Rb8+ 19.Kc1 cxd5 20.Qxd5+ Qf7 etc. 17.Ng5 is met by Rb8 18.b3 h6 19.Nh3 Bd6 and if 20.Qxa7 Ra8 followed by Bxh3 and Rxa2 and Black’s rook is powerful. 19.Nf3 Bd6 and now if 20.Qxa7 e5 planning e4 with a powerful attack; if 21.Nd2 e4 (planning Bg4, Ba3+, and Qe5 threatening mate) 22.Nc4 then Bf4+ followed by dxc4. If 15.Qd4 Bh6+ followed by Ng4 and Black either wins the bishop pair or plays e5, when Black has a strong center.

Hi Eugene,

This 12.Qc4, d6! pawn sac is an interesting line in the Accelerated Dragon 7. Nxc6 / 8.e5 variation! But what would you recommend if Black instead of 12.Qc4 goes for 12.0-0-0 and after 12…0-0 plays the aggressive 13.h4 line?

Best
Dietmar
