What is the purpose of this website?
The purpose of this site is to provide a comprehensive and easy-to-understand openings guide based on the best-selling books, Chess Openings for White Explained and Chess Openings for Black Explained. One of the three Grandmaster authors of those books was GM Eugene Perelshteyn, the creator of this website. Those books were published years ago, and a lot has changed. Not only has opening theory evolved, advances in technology make it easy to provide a site like this one that allows you to learn in a more interactive way.
Who is involved in this site?
As mentioned above, GM Eugene Perelshteyn founded this website and is the provider of most of the content. Since Eugene’s time is limited, we also have a team of strong players on hand to answer questions and analyze members’ games, as well as record some videos.
What will I get as a member?
First of all, you’ll get downloads of updated PGNs for the white and black books. These files have a lot of new and important ideas. You’ll also get access to our video library, where GM Perelshteyn explains opening subtleties in an easy to understand way. These videos are exclusive and new ones are being added every week.
Another feature of the members area is the Opening FAQ, where you can ask specific questions and get them answered by strong players. Each question and answer gets added to the page so we’re hoping over time to build this up to be a giant database of information.
Our plan is that the PGNs will give you the opening knowledge you need, the videos will show you how to act this out in actual games, and the FAQ feature will refine your knowledge and play. All of this adds up to you becoming a stronger chess player.
What does membership look like?
You can get either monthly or yearly membership. Monthly membership is $4.99 per month. Yearly membership goes for $49.99, and also includes a bonus free game analysis from our sister site AskaGM.com (normally $20), where you can have a Grandmaster give you a video analysis of your game. Membership entitles you to all of the features outlined above.
